It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to Dr. John Ying Choi Tsang, beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on February 15, 2025, at the age of 76. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Eileen; children: Katherine and Laura; grandchildren: Lucy and Connor; as well as numerous friends and family.
Dr. Tsang was born in Hong Kong in 1948 and moved to Canada for postsecondary studies. Following an undergraduate degree in biochemistry at McGill University, he attended the University of Toronto’s medical school where he attained his MD in 1974. After settling on the West Coast, he led a successful career as an associate director of the Intensive Care Unit at the Vancouver General Hospital where he practiced medicine for 27 years. He was also a clinical professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia.
After retiring in 2015, he furthered his hobbies, including traveling; studying law and history; and learning piano. He also loved doting on his two grandchildren.
A memorial will be held on Sunday, March 2 at 1pm at the Celebration Hall, 5445 Fraser Street, Vancouver, BC.
