It is with great sadness we advise of the passing of Jolynne Evelyn Benson (nee Baker) on May 26, 2021 at Lions Gate Hospital surrounded by the love of her family. Jolynne fondly known as ‘Jo’, was born Jan 18, 1957 to her late parents Vernon Stanley Nahanee and Juliana Rosina Baker at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver. She grew up on Mission (Eslha7an) IR # 1. Jolynne was part of the 60’s scoop and attended St. Paul’s Indian Day school, Sechelt Indian Residential School, and Christie Indian Residential School. She attended Hamilton Junior High School, St. Thomas Aquinas, and graduated from Carson Graham Senior Secondary. Jolynne was mentored by Blanche MacDonald at the Vancouver Friendship Centre. Jolynne was a woman of many skills; a nurse’ aid for 10 years, archiving and cataloging artifacts for museums and libraries; and traffic control for a local tv show ‘Beach Combers.’ She had some health complications; Lupus (SLE), cancer, cranial lesions, but always remained positive. Jolynne was resilient, adventurous, compassionate, supportive, brave, a wonderful cook and had a great sense of humour.
