It is with deep sadness and loving remembrance that we announce the passing of Konstantinos (Kosta) Bourpoulas, who fell asleep in the Lord on February 18, 2026, at the age of 81.
Konstantinos was born on August 15, 1944, in Managouli, Fokidas, Greece, where he grew up on the family farm. At the young age of 17, he enlisted in the Greek Air Force and faithfully served for 28 months. Upon completing his military service, Kosta joined the Athens Police Department, where he served from 1964 to 1967.
In search of greater opportunity and to build a better life for his future family, Kosta made the brave decision to immigrate to Canada. He married the love of his life, Vaso, in 1967. Together they built a beautiful family, welcoming daughter Vicki in 1968 and son Perry in 1970.
Upon arriving in Canada, Kosta worked in several kitchens, learning the restaurant business while quietly nurturing his dream of one day owning a restaurant of his own. Until that dream became reality, he spent over two decades working in various bars throughout the Lower Mainland, where his strong work ethic and larger-than-life personality left lasting impressions.
In 1994, Kosta proudly purchased and began operating the Slocan Family Restaurant, a place that became well known for its welcoming atmosphere and loyal customers who quickly became friends. He operated the restaurant with pride until his retirement in 2012. Never one to slow down completely, Kosta went on to help his son Perry build and operate the Sixth Street Grill from 2012 to 2015.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Vaso Bourpoulas; his children, Vicki (Jim) Papadoulis and Perry (Sonja) Bourpoulas; and his cherished grandchildren, Eleni (Dimitri), Paul, Kosta, and Giuliano. He also leaves behind extended family and many dear friends whose lives were brightened by his presence.
Kosta will be remembered as a man who truly loved life. He never turned down good company, good music, or a lively dance floor. With a generous heart, he was always ready to help others. Known for his sharp wit, playful sarcasm, and endless funny sayings, he brought laughter wherever he went. Above all, he deeply loved and spoiled his grandchildren, who were the light of his life.
He also had a well-known love of good food, especially a perfectly cooked steak, and believed the best moments in life were those spent gathered around the table with family and friends.
Prayers will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Orthodox Church (Boundary Road). Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park (Royal Oak).
Following the burial, family and friends are invited to join for a Makaria (memorial luncheon) at the Sts. Nicholas and Dimitrios Greek Community Centre downstairs hall.
Donations in Konstantinos’ memory may be made to Variety – the Children’s Charity of BC. Flowers are also gratefully accepted.
