Born in Brazil in August 1974, Loo lived a life that spanned continents, from Brazil to Japan to Los Angeles, before finally putting down roots in Burnaby, where she built the life she loved. She carried a piece of every place she lived, and it showed in the richness and openness she brought to everything she did.
Loo is survived by her devoted husband, Albert; her children, Jayden and Kayla; and her beloved dog, Kai. She was the cherished daughter of Hisae and is reunited with her father, Tsutomu, who preceded her in passing.
Those who knew Loo knew her passions ran deep. She loved to travel, with Hawaii holding a special place in her heart, a destination that matched her spirit: bright, warm, and full of life. She showed up for every sport her children tried, from hockey rinks to soccer fields, but volleyball held a piece of her heart like nothing else — a sport she lived fully, whether she was playing, watching from the sidelines, or teaching the next generation. Cheering every rally, calling "S I D E O U T!" like only she could, she made every athlete in her orbit feel seen and supported.
Whether she was on the pool deck or hosting a gathering, Loo had a way of feeding everyone. Her musubi was a staple at swim meets, and her bagna cauda and salmon bakes were wildly popular at gatherings. Her special occasion fondant cakes looked like something from Food TV. She poured love and care into everything she did for everyone around her.
She leaves behind a family who adores her, a community who misses her dearly, and a spark that will never quite go out. She was the most loving and caring auntie to all of her family and friends’ children. Loo taught us what ohana really means. Loo, you are our ohana, always and forever.
Loo — the warmth you gave us travels with us always.
