Madeline Murphy-Brown was born the only child Dec. 21, 1945 to the late Alwin and Violet Murphy. He was a skilled carpenter where they both farmed their home on the hillside of Kingstown, Saint Vincent. She was immersed in the Christian Community that would be her lifelong support and comfort from an early age. She immigrated to Vancouver, BC after completing a degree in Bookkeeping where she went on to work a 38 year career for the Gov't of Canada E.I. department eventually retiring at the age of 62 to watch her granddaughter and enjoy her retirement. She spent her first years in Canada living with "Uncle" Owen Murphy and his children and close friends/cousins Jim (Pam) and Eve (Guy, children Michelle and Jason). She went on to meet Kenneth Robert Brown (predeceased) and moved to the first of their homes on 41st Ave. after their marriage in 1974. Ken and her went on to have two boys Alwin and Michael, and 2 grandchildren Carmelita and Lincoln; all of whom were the light of her life, and proudest achievements.
Maddy was blessed with a large and loving family back in Kingstown, in Ontario and spread around the globe, but she made time to reach out and keep in touch and continue relationships with everyone. She cherished her close relationships with her cousins back home, and always talked about growing up together. She made fast friends with everyone she met, and always had a story of "back home" at the ready. She has quite a lot of friends - work friends they would celebrate birthdays and events together by enjoying group dinners, her Trout Lake Centre crew she met with weekly for bus trips, events, or centre going ons. Knight Road Church she was deeply involved with and the boys grew up in, and the Caribbean Club she spent many an evening dancing the night away!
Maddy was a Vincentian first always. Her Caribbean culture, values and love of spicy foods ran deep.. She taught us all about loving family, living simply, and never wasting. She was a giving, open spirit and always helping those less fortunate. She will be missed by so many, and carried in all of our hearts as Maddy is home with God now. Till next time "Dahlin".
