Samson and Angela Eulogy for our mother

Hello, My name is Samson Chang and on behalf of my siblings and my wife I would like to thank you all for coming to my mother’s celebration of life.
Besides the fact my mom was loving, thoughtful and a humble lady she was also business minded. I would always seek her advice. I remember when I was in my early 20’s, I asked her what career path I should pursue? Without hesitation, she told me to go into computers. I was sent down this journey of 20 years running my business and being in the industry for 30 years. I’m truly thankful to my mom.  Little did I know her advice would allow me to provide my nieces, nephews and cousins with valuable job experiences. 
It was truly a blessing for me to drive my mom to her Doctor’s appointments for her last couple of years. After the doctors,
 we would go for lunch. We would share bowls of congee and won ton, Chinese doughnuts and occasionally throw in a special treat of beef rice noodles. 
When my wife and I would attend church, I would always pray for my mom. I prayed that she wouldn’t need to suffer in the hospital at passing. The lord made this come true.
Mother, we will miss you forever and you will remain a part of us.

The loss of a mother is one of those monumentally sad occasions, regardless of how old you are, that you can never truly prepare for.  So, it is with genuine sympathy and understanding that I offer you my thoughts about May Chang. 

I was ten years of age when I first met her after chasing Farley around elementary school trying desperately to make him my friend. I ended up spending hours hanging around May's Grocery Store with Farley while he worked some of his shifts at the till.  May's Grocery Store is forever etched in my mind. 

Even at that young age, I instinctively knew your mother, who raised five children while running a successful business, was special. 

As I grew up around her, I came to fully appreciate how her strength and determination in finding a way to not just make a decent life for her family but to make her family thrive was truly an inspiration for those of us who had it much easier from the start.  She was the type of person who made you want to stop feeling sorry for yourself when you ran into a few obstacles every now and then. 

I could always sense your mother's quiet will to succeed, her absolute commitment to taking care of her family. It was obvious, without having to be spoken, that nothing was more important to her than her family.  I'm very much aware of how successful her children and grandchildren have all become in their own right.  No doubt much of that success can be attributed to the example she set for all of you on your way to becoming adults. 

Whenever I saw Mrs. Chang, and sometimes it was every day when I was young, whether she liked it or not, she spoke only few words to me in English.  But she was never shy about barking loudly at me in Chinese, which would often rattle me or make me nervous, thinking I had annoyed her somehow or that she wanted me to go home.  But it was always followed by a hint of a smile, as if she was getting a big kick out of my reaction.  Turned out she was usually asking me if I was hungry and wanted to eat.  She cooked a lot of very tasty food for me over the years.  And I know my mother was grateful knowing I was still getting fed since I was spending so much time at the Chang household. 

Mrs. Chang invited me to many family banquets and gatherings for special occasions, including birthdays and Christmas.  She made me feel like it mattered to her that I was there.  I'm not sure why she did this, because I never really had anything to offer her in return. 

I wish I had one more opportunity to see your mother.  If I could, I would hold her hand, look her in the eye, and thank her for her never-ending kindness, her generosity, her unconditional acceptance of me.  Your family has been a huge part of my life.  In fact, I can't imagine life without knowing the Chang family, without knowing Mrs. Chang.  My life was touched by her more than she ever knew. 

I can't really put into words how I feel about your mother and what she has meant to me over the years.  Deep respectadmirationtrustloyalty.  I don't know what other words I can use to describe how I feel about her. Except maybe love.  I loved your mother. 

Henry, Kelly, Wilma, Farley, Sam, I'm so sorry for your loss. 

Your extended family did a fantastic job at the service.  It was quite beautiful.  I've never seen so many flowers in a chapel.  She was obviously loved by many.  You should be very proud.

As the tears roll down my face,
I begin to digest what has taken place. 
I try very hard not to cry. 
But all of my pain is difficult to hide. 

The passing of my aunt is a shock to all,
How I wish I had given her a final call.
I look up in the sky and pray to our Lord
Please take care of this special angel at your door. 

I missed the time that we spent together,
Precious moments full of joy and laughter. 
The Chinese songs that brought us tears,
Still echo these days after 40 years.

Remember the good times as life unfolds,
Let go the rest and go with the flow. 
Saying goodbye is such a pain,
Never say never until we meet again.

Poh-poh, I will miss you dearly. I have many fond memories of visiting with you especially during childhood. Thank you for being there for my family. I will remember you forever. ()

May was a delightful, caring person who I had the pleasure of knowing over the past 10 years. She raised a beautiful family who carry on her values and traditions of community, caring and compassion. She will be missed but has certainly worked hard to earn a well deserved rest and reunion with her loved ones who passed on before.  My thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends as they find a new rhythm in life without May's presence. Thank you May for your many kind and generous words & actions towards me.

May Chang, a great lady whom I am honored to have known. She has always been a guiding light for Adam, Tara, Aaron and myself. She will be deeply missed and be forever in our hearts and thoughts.

Yee poh you will be missed. Hope that you and grandma and grandpa  are having lots of fun play mah Jong

Our beloved yee poh who we will deeply miss has now joined our beloved grandma Jean and will forever be looking out for us from the heavens above.  

We will never forget you and will surely remember you forever.
