

He is predeceased by his wife, Barbara Elaine (nee Campbell) and survived by his children Robert, Timothy, Kathryn, Paul (Shannon) and grandson Braden. Sharing in the family’s loss are relatives, neighbours, community members, former colleagues, and dear friends from near and far.
Merrick was born and raised in Mandeville, the parish of Manchester, Jamaica, West Indies on July, 27, 1930. He attended Jamaica College in Kingston as a youth and then Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. After returning to Jamaica to work, he migrated with his young family to Edmonton, Alberta before settling in Vancouver, B.C. in 1965.
In Vancouver, he began working at McElhanney Surveying and Engineering and remained a loyal and dedicated employee for 30 years. His work there as a geodetic surveyor took him to many countries across the globe where he was known for his careful attention to details and his outstanding service to clients.
In recent years he loved his daily walks as it allowed him to share stories with store clerks, shopkeepers, neighbours and friends.
A celebration of Merrick’s life will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.
There will be funeral service from 10 am at St. John’s Shaughnessy church, 1490 Nanton Ave. (corner Granville & Nanton) Vancouver, BC., Reverend Dr. Terry Dirbas presiding.
This service will be followed by a graveside ceremony at Mountain View Cemetery, (5455 Fraser St., Vancouver) from noon, then a reception at the Celebration Hall to the north of the Cemetery Office.
