Michael Jason Bzowy blessed us with his beautiful human presence from July 4th 1978 to May 30th 2022. He spent his last day looking forward to recording new music and in the company of one of his best friends. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, no doubt holding the hope of a better tomorrow in his heart.
Michael’s life was defined by love; the love of those who continue to hold him dear and the love he radiated to all who knew him. He leaves behind a large family Mother (Carol), Dad (Glenn), Siblings (Thuja, James, Joel (Chloe), Crystal, Stephanie, Sunday, Lora, Nancy, Noah and Colton), Nieces/Nephews/Niblings (Savannah, Ava, Ivor, Connor). He also leaves behind many friends and his dogs, his “boys”, (Angus and Titus)
He is welcomed on this next stage of his journey by Grandparents (Art and Ilene Purdon, John and Norma Chaters, Ron and Dorothy Jeffrey), Father (Dennis) and Aunt (Karen Jeffrey). Furry friends (Kansas, Chico and Sketch) will also be greeting him.
Michael was a truly unique person who emanated kindness, gratitude and was generous to a fault.
His biggest love outside of the people who he cared for was music. His talents as a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, song writer and performer were evident at an early age. Michael recorded over four albums of original music in his short life and collaborated on projects with many other artists. His appreciation of music and natural ear were infectious. He inspired and taught many people to begin playing guitar and bass as well as how to develop a deeper understanding of how to appreciate music as an art form. Michael was a true artist whose sensitive and creative nature and perspective on life were a gift to all who knew him.
Michael found peace in fishing and passed his skills and respect for this practice on to his siblings. His legacy as a fisherman continues on in the annual Jeffrey Family Fishing Tournament.
Michael’s life was cut short and his health devastated by his over 10 year struggle with Agammaglobulinemia. This rare, incurable, and poorly understood immunological disease was a source of great pain and suffering. While it stole from him his quality of life and far too many years, it never took from him those aspects of his spirit most central to who he was – his ability to love, his empathy, his humour, his compassion. He faced his illness in the way he faced all adversity in his life – with hope, humility and most of all humour.
As he continues on into this next phase of his existence, you will find him in unexpected moments of kindness, hilarity and creative insight.
As those of us left behind grieve, try to take comfort in this message from one of Michael’s original songs
“I’ll carry you as far as I can,
through the water, rocks and sand.
Promise me though, when you feel my cold hands,
You’ll let go of me and swim to land.”
- Michael Bzowy
