

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mitsue (Mitzi) Hayashi on January 4, 2014, at the age of 74. She passed away peacefully at Cottage Hospice in Vancouver after an extended illness. Mitzi was born on December 12, 1939 in Bowser, BC, the second youngest of nine children, to Takezo and Sato Uyeno. She graduated from Brittania Secondary School in Vancouver where she played on the varsity girls’ softball team. Mitzi married Etsuo (Ed) Hayashi on March 17, 1962 and together they worked to build a successful family business, Domo Construction Ltd., in Vancouver. Over the years, Mitzi enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends, travelling, shopping, playing the slots, bon odori, and reading. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Ed, three children, Shelley (Mark) of Vancouver, Cary (Karen) of Victoria, and Lora (Don) of Chilliwack, and five grandchildren, Kurtis, Leah, Matthew, Kayleigh, and Kaelan. Mitzi is predeceased by her parents, her sister, Susie, and brothers, Yuki, Terry, Kenny and Harry. A viewing will be held at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel from 6-8pm on January 11th. The funeral service will take place on January 12th at 11am at Glenhaven, followed by cremation at the Vancouver Crematorium at 2:30pm.
