It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and brother Ray “Chuma” Baker. Ray will be remembered for his extraordinary sense of humour. He had a way of bringing laughter to all people he met by telling stories and jokes. Squamish Nation Elders and families will remember Chuma’s legacy for attending community gatherings and travelling back and forth from the North Shore to Squamish visiting relatives. We could all hear him say “up the lazy river” every time we had a conversation with him. He also had many mutual friendships with those he met at Park Royal Mall, another favorite spot for Chuma to pass time.
Chuma is survived by and will be dearly missed by his children Neil Grant, Denise Baker, Cynthia Baker, Elaine Baker, Reginald Paul, Nick Williams and Romona Fraser; siblings Dorie Yelton, Patsy Thomas, Lou Lewis (Alfred), Harry Baker (Judy), Jeannie Bomberry (Dan), Swede Baker, Gary Baker (Judy), Wayne Baker, Mona MacBean (Phillip), Laura Schwoob (Peter Sr.), Hugh Baker (Kelly) and brother in law Paul Lumsden; grandchildren Gabriel, Cory, Isiah, Travis, Jonathan, Aaron (Angelina) and Debra (Kayla); great grandchildren Kililia, Augusta, Blakely, Nohloni, Travis Jr., Kaylee, Haylee, and Elora.
A prayer service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 7:00 pm and a funeral service on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 10:00 am both at Chief Joe Mathias Centre, North Vancouver, BC. On line condolences at www.dignitymemorial.com
