Ray passed away on January 24, 2023.
He was born June 16, 1938 in Kamloops, moving with his mother Jenny and father Larry in 1947 to Penticton where he attended school, graduating from Pen Hi in 1956 with a grad class second to none. Close friendships were made and still are kept warm to this date. After completing his BEd at UBC, he returned to the Okanagan, teaching in Summerland until 1970 when he returned to UBC for his Masters in Counselling Psychology.
He remained in Vancouver, working in Coquitlam School District 43 as an area counsellor until his retirement in 1997. Ray was active in the Summerland and Okanagan Valley Teachers’ Association and then in the Coquitlam Teachers’ Association, the BCTF, the Coquitlam Retired Teachers’ Association and the BC Retired Teachers’ Association. He held executive positions in all these teacher groups over the years.
He enjoyed reading and gardening, especially tending his roses.
No service at Ray’s request.
Friends are encouraged to get together, enjoy a hearty meal with a gin martini and some fine wine, hug someone you love, listen to some good music, tell stories, and remember that love and kindness are what make the world a better place.
If you wish, donations may be made to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Recital Society or the Vancouver Art Gallery.
