He was a well-respected accountant in Hong Kong for the city's largest department store. Married with four young children, he decided to move the family to Vancouver to start anew, in hopes of greater opportunities for his children's future.
Prior to moving, he was cognizant that his accounting credentials would no longer be valid in Canada, so while working full-time, he enrolled himself in culinary school--learning the art of fine Cantonese cooking. In Vancouver, he would work for several years at Dynasty Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant and prior to that a few places in Vancouver's Chinatown. He would invariably become the restaurants' bookkeeper due to his previous career, along with his fastidiousness and his trustworthy spirit. From those forays into the restaurant world, he opened his own restaurant in Calgary, Alberta called Golden East Restaurant, and later, Richmond Garden Restaurant in Richmond, BC. For someone in their 40's to start a new venture with many mouths to feed, including a new addition born in Canada, was a great risk, but See was determined to succeed. And succeed, he did.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and family. His health, unfortunately, halted further travel due to increasing difficulties with his kidneys. He would eventually begin dialysis just before 1999. See miraculously continued with weekly dialysis treatments for renal failure, almost 17 years--a true testament of his fortitude. His iron-clad constitution and healthy appetite kept him relatively healthy, even in the face of a terminal illness that required painful weekly intervention.
Family was always his priority for See, and in the end, the entire family gathered at his bedside to ensure his last days were comfortable and safe--something he always did for us. He leaves a legacy of five children, 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
