Shuk-Han Bau (née Yeung) passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Langara in Vancouver, B.C. Shuk-Han Bau was born in Zhongshan in the province of Guangdong, China. She was married to Shiu-Pin Bau in Hong Kong. He preceded her in death on December 25, 1989. She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses.
Shuk-Han was a loving and generous woman. She respected the traditional Chinese values and Buddhist beliefs. She worked briefly prior to her married life and dedicated most of her life to raising her children. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. She had passed on her love of food to her children. She was also talented with needles and threads, thus she sewed and knitted most of her children’s clothing while they were growing up. In 1980 she and husband moved to Vancouver, B.C. She received a good citizen award from her community in Vancouver. She participated in a fundraising walk in her seventies. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
Shuk-Han Bau is survived by her 7 children: Vivian Wai-Kuen Bau (Farid Jaffer), Calgary, Alberta, Flora Wai-Fong (late Kenneth) Chung, Vancouver, B.C., David Wai-Keung, Vancouver, B.C., Mabel Wai-Ming (William) Ng, Los Angeles, California, Shirley Wai-Sheung (Patrick Ng), Markham, Ontario, Eva Wai-Wah (Jimmy Ho), Winnipeg, Manitoba and Fannie Wai-Fun (David Shatkin), Hong Kong. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Derek (Gail) Lai, Jennifer Lai (Miguel DaSilva), Benjamin Chung, Christopher (Tinnie) Chung, Christine Ng (Scott Litzelman), Cara Ng, Iian Ho and Ryan Ho. She had 3 great-grandchildren: Ethan Lai, Carter Lai and Cora Litzelman.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home, 306 East 11th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home, 306 East 11th Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. Burial will be at 12:00 noon at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 3789 Royal Oak Avenue, Burnaby, B.C. to follow service.
