We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Theda Christakis, a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026, in Vancouver, BC, at the age of 87.
She was born on September 2, 1938, in Sykea, Greece. Theda was the second-youngest of five siblings: Bill, Eleni, Mary, and Gus; all of whom she cherished deeply.
In 1963, she immigrated to Canada, where she met the love of her life, James Christakis. They became engaged just three months later, beginning a beautiful journey that would span 61 years of marriage filled with love, devotion, and partnership.
To Theda, love came naturally. She was known for her warmth, generosity, and the way she made everyone feel at home. Within minutes of someone walking through her door, there would be an abundance of homemade spinach pies, pastries, and Greek coffee brewing on the stove. Her care extended to all aspects of her life, especially her garden, where six-foot-tall tomato plants and vibrant flowers flourished under her nurturing touch. Spring was her favourite season, and she took great joy in sharing the fruits of her garden with family and friends.
Her warm smile never faltered, especially during times of celebration. The Easter season, in particular, held a special place in her heart, bringing her immense joy each year.
Theda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, James Christakis; her daughters, Phyllis and Kathy, son-in-law Steve; and her cherished grandchildren, James, Doriana, Annalise, and Doria. Her love for them was immeasurable, and she was truly a pillar of light in their lives.
She came to Canada with very little but leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and strength—a true testament to a life fully and beautifully lived.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nurses at Vancouver General Hospital, BC Cancer Agency and the incredible team at the Vancouver Hospice Society for their compassionate care.
May her memory be eternal.
