William Edward James Risbey Haines

William Edward James Risbey Haines passed away peacefully on September 7th, 2024, at the age of 81, at the Three Links Care Home in Vancouver, BC. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final moments, a reflection of the love and support he always gave to those around him.

Born on May 8th, 1943, William lived a life full of adventure and a deep appreciation for the outdoors. He traveled the world, finding joy in some of his favorite destinations, including Australia, The Yukon, Hawaii, and Jasper, Alberta. His love for the wilderness led him on many remarkable journeys, including a memorable horseback ride with his son David through the Canadian Rockies. William loved to spend time with his grandchildren, especially at the beach, and took them all on a special trip to Hawaii.

Though the later part of his life saw him struggle with mental health and dementia, William’s strong spirit and helpful, kind nature always shone through. He was known for his generous heart and his willingness to help others in times of need.

He is survived by 2 children, Samantha Risbey- Haines (Ping Zhu), and David Risbey-Haines (Rie Sakai), his grandchildren Julian Zhu, Jacob Zhu, and Jayda Zhu as well as his ex-wife and friend Penny Karjala. William is now reunited with his mother Frances Gooch and father William Risbey Haines.
