It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Zisis Theodorakis, our beloved husband, father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his loving and devoted wife Roula, his son Tom, daughter-in-law Janice, daughter Fani, son-in-law Pete, his three grandsons, George (Maria), Stephen and John. He is also missed and remembered by his extended family and friends, both here in Vancouver and in Greece, including his brother Christos, sisters Georgia and Frosini (Fanis), brother-in-law Gus (Diane), sister-in-law Eleni, and many nephews and nieces.
Zisis was born in Dolichi, Elassonas, Greece on May 17, 1930. Along with his parents and four siblings, the family eventually moved to his mother’s village of Gerania where he spent most of his childhood years. He left home at an early age to work and help support his family. After serving in the Greek army, he immigrated to Canada for a better life, first moving to Montreal in 1955 and eventually settling in Vancouver after working in Kitimat and other small communities in B.C. Zisis met and married Roula in 1962, together raising their family and enjoying almost 60 beautiful years together.
Zisis will be remembered for his kindness, his warm personality and his love of and dedication to his family especially his three grandsons. He had a strong work ethic and determination and was friend to many. Nothing gave him more pleasure than spending time in his garden and with his grandsons, who he adored.
The family thanks the dialysis and acute elder care teams at VGH. A funeral service will be held at St George's Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery. Rev Nikolaos Sideras officiating. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to St. George’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral.
