Ada grew up in North Dakota, graduating from high school there, then moving to Detroit, Michigan to attend St. Mary’s Nursing School from 1941-1944. After graduation she and a friend moved to Seattle. The day they arrived they walked in to Swedish Hospital, were given jobs and told to come in that night to begin their new careers. Ada’s nursing career spanned 42 years. While working in Seattle, Ada met the love of her life, Holland, who had just been discharged from the Navy. May 25, 1947 Ada and Holland were married. They started their family and remained in Seattle until 1960 when they moved to Vancouver and Ada went to work for St. Joseph Hospital. The hospital moved and changed names numerous times over the years, but Ada stayed with them until she retired in 1988 as the director of In Service Education.
Ada enjoyed many things, but mostly she believed her family was the most important and gave her the most joy. She cherished everyone in her “small” family. In addition to family, she enjoyed cross-stitch, sewing, crocheting and was an avid reader.
Ada is survived by her son, Ray (Susan) Harrington; grandchildren, Rusty, Sierra, Caitlan and Milena; great grandchildren, Jayke and Jordan; and sister, Marie Holum. She is preceded in death by her husband, Holland “Dutch” Harrington and son, Russell Harrington.
A funeral Service for Ada will be held 3:00PM, Friday, July 31, 2015 at Vancouver Funeral Chapel.
