He was born in Mason City, Iowa on December 14, 1935. Clarke graduated from Vancouver High School, Class of 1954 and attended Clark College 1954 to 1956. He was married to his high school sweetheart Shirley Mae Meade (Markkanen) on August 27, 1955. Clarke worked as a laborer for Spokane, Portland and Seattle railway as well as Boise Cascade Paper Mill, Pinkerton Security until retirement.
He served with the US Air National Guard and US Army National Guard, winning road races and beating men half his age in military training. He had a passion for baseball, earning the honor of Team Captain and Inspirational Award, gaining the attention of many local professional scouts.
Clarke loved his family, fishing, reading, coaching, and scorekeeping.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; children Virginia Goodall, Diane and Steve Dickinson, Theresa and Curtis Paulson, Juliana and Doug Myers, and Arthur and Chetana Meade; grandchildren Amber Schiefelbein, Kimberly Goodall, Dean Dickinson, Jenna Graves, Ryan Piper, Andrew Nelson, Erin Nelson, Hannah Meade, Grant Myers; great grandchildren AJ Hojnacki Schiefelbein, Dezirae Ruble, Hayden Ruble, Audrey Schiefelbein, and Bristol Hunt.
Brother, sister, and heavenly sister Cynthia Cresap, Cecilia Leicht, and John Dennis Meade.
Funeral Arrangements and Viewing will be held at Vancouver Funeral chapel 5-7 p.m on October 25th, 2020. A Chapel Service will be held Monday, October 26th, 2020 at 11 am, followed by laying him to rest in Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie, Washington.
