While Doris was young, she and her family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho, where she grew up. Doris was the oldest of six children. While attending a church camp in McCall, Idaho, she found the love of her life, James DeBoard. They married about six months later, on January 4, 1948 in Twin Falls. She and Jim were inseparable and deeply in love throughout their marriage. Early on, they moved to Nampa, Idaho where Jim attended college. A few years later, Jim and Doris moved to Portland, Oregon where Jim found his job he held for the many years to follow until retirement. At a point in his employment he was promoted to a position in the same company in Olympia, Washington.
Once the children were older Doris went to work. She found employment working as a salesclerk with People’s Department store. She truly enjoyed her work there. Doris loved working with people and helping them with their purchasing experience. Later she took employment at a bank. One of the highlights in her and Jim’s marriage was when they had the opportunity to move to Germany for a year where he worked. This was a time full of so many adventures and memories she never forgot. After Jim retired, they spent time living as Camp Hosts at various Washington State Parks. They enjoyed their time living in their RV and having the opportunity to help other campers. Doris loved this time working with people and doing what she loved best; helping and interacting with others and developing lasting and unforgettable memories with still, her love of her life, Jim. After a few years of camp hosting they moved to Chico, California to be closer to Jim’s family. Family they had been close to for all their years of marriage but were never able to live close prior to this time. They took on a position of working in the office and working on the grounds as Park managers at a mobile home park where they lived. Again, Doris enjoyed working with the people and made new lasting friends.
Over the years she had collected sea shells when her and Jim would go to the ocean, their favorite place to be. She and Jim loved the ocean. It was a special place for them to spend time alone together. It didn’t matter where on the coast, but they especially loved the Oregon Coast. Even after losing Jim this was Doris’ favorite place to be.
Doris is survived by her children, Diana (David) Boswell, Jim (Diane) DeBoard, Jonathan (Diane) DeBoard and Janice (David) Siegfried; sisters, Helen (Bob) Murphy and Sue (Ed) Miller; 15 Grandchildren, 28 Great grandchildren, and 3 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim; grandchild, Christopher Davis; sisters, Dorothy Redd and Delores Thomas; and brother, Kenneth Orwick.
A memorial service for Doris will be held March 10th at 1:00 pm at the Mt. View Nazarene Church, 940 Israel Rd SW, Tumwater, Washington 98501 - 360.943.0795
