

Kenneth “Ken” Sternberg 84 passed away on January 29th in Vancouver Washington of complication from pneumonia. Ken was born on July 31st 1928 in Steelville IL to Everett John Sternberg and Thelma Grace Pressley. After graduating from Chester High School he enlisted in the Army where he served as an office manager for more than 20 years. While serving in Japan he met and married his wife Miyoko Kurita Sternberg and together they adopted 2 children Timothy Mark Sternberg and Tina Marie Kennedy. After retiring from regular Army he went in the Army reserves and worked as a recruiter and career counselor. He then went to work for the Department of Transportation for the next 20 years where he retired in 1993 just before his first granddaughter Shelby Renee’ Kennedy was born in 1995 and her sister Melissa Ann Kennedy in 1999.
He is survived by his wife, 2 children, 2 granddaughters, his brother Walter Sternberg, and 3 sisters Florence Spurgeon, Lela Sternberg and Carol Bryant.
A memorial is planned for Friday February 8, 2013 at the Vancouver Funeral Chapel to be followed by military honors at the Vancouver Post Cemetery.
