Roy Sonney

Roy graduated from Ridgefield High School, class of ‘49. He met Donna Kemper and were married June 15, 1950 in Vancouver, WA. They started a family and had three children, Greg, Mark and Vicki.

Roy started Ridgefield Wood Waste Company in 1955, running the business until 1963 when he went on to become the founder and owner of Yard ‘n Garden Land in Vancouver where he continued until retirement just a few short years ago. His family took over the business and is still maintaining it today.

Roy was a 30 year member of the Chaparral Country Club and put in 20 years with the Lions Club. He was also the 2012 Grand Marshall of the Hazel Dell Parade.

Roy enjoyed gardening, playing golf, feeding squirrels and vacationing in Palm Desert, CA. His one true love though, was his front end loader.

Roy is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jake and Bernard and his great granddaughter, Hazel Dow. He is survived by his lovely wife of nearly 63 years, Donna; children, Greg (Kristi) and Mark (Pam) Sonney of Vancouver; daughter Vicki (Steve) Schurter of St. John, Virgin Islands; sister, Lavada Harris of Ridgefield; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Ridgefield Methodist Church, Monday, June 10 at 1:00 pm.
