

Bertha Geraldine (Jerry) Kader, née Beckett 92, passed away on May 22, 2021 after a short illness. She was born on November 4, 1928 in Normantown, West Virginia to Cutlip & Pearl Beckett. After moving to Ohio where she met Frank Kader, they married in 1948.
Bertha was a machine operator at General Motors in Elyria, OH and for 28 years. She was known as the “candy lady” because she sold so much peanut brittle that was made at her church. Bertha & Frank moved to Florida in 1986. Each year they would travel back to Ohio for extended visits.
A long-time member of Abundant Life Church in Elyria, Ohio she later became a pioneer member of El-Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle in North Port, FL where she loved attending church and loved the Lord! Bertha faithfully read her Bible daily and the entire Bible several times a year. She was an avid reader, often taking 15 books from the library and having them read in 3 weeks!
She was preceded in death by daughter Vickie, husband Frank, her parents and siblings Daily Beckett (3 days old), Oleta Putnam, Eula Jenkins, Edith Looney, Mona Susak, and William Beckett.
Bertha is survived by sons, Tim (Denise) of LaGrange, Ohio, Jack (Carol) of Tarpon Springs, FL and David of North Port, who has been her constant companion and amazing care taker since his dad passed. There are not enough words to describe his dedication to his mom and her well-being and the family is forever grateful. Special thanks to her niece, Theresa Gilley who, for years has cleaned her home and made sure her hair was fixed and brought special treats.
She is survived by siblings, Geneta Travers, Arizona, Vernadean Marker of Grafton, Ohio and Edward (Bud) Beckett of Amherst, Ohio and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by grandchildren, Jennifer (Kevin) Condon of Perrysburg, Ohio; Julie (James) Carpenter of LaGrange, Nathaniel, Rebekah and Taliah Kader all of FL, great-grandchildren, Ashley (Samuel) Sullivan & Alyssa Condon, Emily (Cory), Nicholas & Eric Williams (her favorite), Grace Taylor, David & Jonathan Carpenter.
A celebration of life will be held Wednesday, May 26 at El-Bethel Pentecostal Tabernacle, 4814 S Chamberlain Rd., North Port 34286 with Minister Roger Davis officiating. Visitation will be 11 AM - Noon with the service starting at noon. Burial will take place at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood on Friday, May 28 at an appointed time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jerry’s name for the food pantry at Awaken Church, P O Box 6907, North Port, FL 34290.
