March 8, 1940 – May 6, 2023
Bruce passed away peacefully in hospice care at the age of 83 on Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice with his wife by his side. He resided in Venice full time since selling his second home in Aurora, Ohio in August 2020. Bruce is survived by his wife, Pat, of 61 years, daughters Tami Murphy (Keith) and Traci Millhof (Jay), his grandchildren: Austin, Jordan, Lexi, and Megan and his great grandchildren, August and JJ.
With no college experience, Bruce became a self-made successful businessman in the steel industry. He worked for Olympic Steel Inc. in Bedford Heights, Ohio as a salesman for 40 years. During the latter part of his career at Olympic, he simultaneously owned and operated B & B Burning Co. After leaving Olympic Steel, he started his own steel brokerage company and named it Classic Steel. Bruce loved what he did so much that he never fully retired. He closed his last sale from his hospital bed the last week of his life.
During his middle years, Bruce was an avid golfer and a member of Tanglewood Country Club in Bainbridge, Ohio as well as Barrington Country Club in Aurora, OH. He enjoyed gin games on Wednesdays, couples' golf trips, playing backgammon, yearly family vacations to Siesta Key, and staying out late for dinner and dancing with his wife on Saturday nights.
More recently, Bruce enjoyed playing Texas Hold 'em, doing jigsaw puzzles, relaxing at the jetty, and fine dining.
The amount of generosity he showed toward others was immeasurable. He took pride in his family, valued his friendships, and cherished his wife every single day since they first met 70 years ago. Bruce loved people, and they loved him. There are no words to describe how greatly he will be missed by everyone that knew him.
