

David Allan Hiatt, 75, passed away Tuesday, January 27th, 2026 at AdventHealth in Port Charlotte, FL. Born In Fort Wayne, IN, February 17, 1950, David was the son of the late Harold E. Hiatt and Hilda L. Galliher Dugger. He graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Civil Engineering Technology and worked for the City of Fort Wayne, Earth Construction, and most recently retired from Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. He continued working after retirement at the City of Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation golf courses. David was a member of Lifehouse Community Church and formerly a member of St. Joseph U.M.C. for 47 years. He was also an active member of the Live Oak Fellowship, Arcadia, FL during the winter months. He was a longtime member of Bible Study Fellowship, Christian Motorcyclists Assoc, and he was an avid golfer at the Live Oak RV and Golf Resort where he served on the church board and the Entertainment Committee. Music was a lifelong passion and he enjoyed singing with various groups over the years. He also enjoyed volunteering with the Lifehouse Food Bank, and the Desoto County Fire & Rescue Support Team. He had a great love for planning trips and traveling with his wife, and loved being with his family and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Ellen (Howenstine) Hiatt, of 54 years; children Chad Hiatt, Laura (Noah) Klima; grandchildren Jonah, Caleb, Micah, C.J., Joel, and Phillip; half-sister, Diane McCoy. He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Andrew Hiatt, his parents and daughter-in-law, Tiffany Hiatt.
A Celebration Of Life will be at 1pm on February 17th, 2026 at St Joseph UMC 6004 Reed Rd. with calling 2 hours prior. Pastor Glenn Knepp, Pastor Russ Abel and Pastor Seth Lochmueller officiating. Burial to follow at a later date at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne, IN. Memorials may be made to LifeWise Academy, Lifehouse Food Bank, Open Doors, or to the church.
