

Born on February 1, 1938, in Brooklyn, NY, Douglas was the beloved son of Charles Francis and Anne Claire Banting. He grew up in Jamaica, Queens, and graduated from St. John’s Prep before attending St. John’s University. He later served in the U.S. Army. After moving his family to Venice, FL, Douglas worked for the Venice Post Office.
Douglas will be remembered most for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and love of family. Outside of work, he was a founding member of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, where he was actively involved in many ministries.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia; his children, Kelly Shoemaker and her husband Tim, Christopher Banting and his wife Ann, and Tara Banting; his grandchildren, Julie Banting Rogers and her husband Mikail, and Samantha Ferguson and her husband Brice; his great-grandchildren, William and Alayna; his sister, Jean Hagenburger; and his nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will miss him deeply.
Christopher Banting will give a eulogy at 10:50 a.m. preceding a Funeral Mass starting at 11:00 a.m. on October 9 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Interment to follow at the memorial garden.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Douglas’s honor to the Dominican Sisters of Mary Mother of the Eucharist.
Douglas’s warmth, love, and laughter will remain in our hearts forever.
