Jack was born the seventh of eight children in Gastonia, North Carolina on March 25, 1950.
As a boy he was active with the Optimist Club and took part in their oratorical contests, going to
state as a finalist in public speaking. He graduated from Frank L. Ashley High School in 1968,
and then attended Gaston College. He married Teresa Chastain Crawford in 1971 and began
working with First Union National Bank in Gastonia in early 1972, beginning a banking career
that would span forty-one years. That career took his family and him from Gastonia to Kings
Mountain, NC, to Statesville, NC, where he served as president of the local Kiwanis Club, then
to the North Carolina Outer Banks as the executive for First Union National Bank there. He was
a president of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow, involved in the Outer Banks Nature
Conservancy and in the Soaring 100 Centennial celebration of the Wright Brothers flight among
many other community services. He eventually went to work for a regional bank called The
Bank of Currituck, where he was a Senior Executive Vice President. He retired in 2013, and
Teresa and he moved to SW Florida to reside in the community of Rotonda West. Jack never
met a stranger and always had a quick smile. He loved to dance, especially beach music
shagging, enjoyed working in his yard and he loved to travel, but most of all he loved his family
and friends. Jack passed away on January 8, 2022 in the home after a long battle with cancer.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Doneva (Donnie) Crawford, three
brothers, Fred Crawford, Jr, Hal Dean (Pete) Crawford and Harold Crawford, and one sister
Starlene Crawford Dellinger. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Teresa Chastain
Crawford, daughters Nikki Crawford Justice (Wes) and Brooke Crawford Clark (Chuck), both of
Manteo, NC, Haley Crawford Smoot of Elkins, WV, and son Chase A. Crawford (Jensen) of
Summerville, SC, six grandchildren, Jack Henry, Connor, Lilly, Lincoln, Ila and Sutton, and three
sisters, Linda Crawford Dockery (Bert), Phyllis Crawford Moss (Mike) and Rhonda Crawford, all
of Gastonia.
Jack will be interred at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in Englewood, FL on January 13th in a
private burial
