Jean's Irish family hailed from Magheracreggan, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. His great-great grandfather Thomas immigrated from Belfast to New York during the famine of 1845.
Jean was a proud, lifelong Boston College "Eagle." He graduated from Boston College High School in 1961, and Boston College in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He later received a Masters in Economics.
Jean was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard and served honorably with distinction from 1965-1970, rising to the rank of Petty Officer First Class in the Coastal Forces, with service at Cape May, Camp Lejeune, Courthouse Bay, and Base Boston.
Jean married Faith Ann Elliott Burdette-Straw in 1968 in Boston, and is survived by his two children, Theresa Marie, of Cambridge, and Gérard Elliott, of Vicenza, Italy; and his four grandchildren: Jonah, Avery, Rachel, and Conor. His wife Faith passed away in 2022. He is survived by his cousins of the Maloof family: George, Kathryn, Peter, Paula, Thomas, Daniel, Philip, and John. Jean and Faith will rest at his daughter's residence in Cambridge, MA.
Jean retired from Liberty Mutual Insurance Company after 35 years in 1999, as an mainframe computer programmer, database analyst, manager, and senior manager. He and Faith retired to Boca Royale Golf Club and Community in Englewood, FL in 2001. Jean was a scratch golfer, and former president of the Boca Royale Golf Course 2006-2007. In 2006, he shot a registered hole-in-one, and won the Boca Royale Golf Club Trophy.
Jean was a lifelong advocate of Second Amendment Rights. He was an expert pistol marksman, winning local, regional, and state level acclaim. He volunteered for decades as a hunter-safety instructor. Since 2015, in Sarasota County, he organized a weekly pistol marksmanship club.
Jean was a friend to all and was a faithful husband, father, and grandfather. Baseball was his first passion, and he rose up through the Dedham, MA Little League ranks, to B.C. High, to Boston College, where he played first base all four years. Jean tried out for a major league baseball team, and while he was not selected, he always told us, "I held my own that day."
Well done, Jean. Rest now with your wife, in light and peace and love!
