

home on February 22, 2024. Born January 1, 1937 in Rutland, VT., Tom moved to Branford, Connecticut as a boy.
He enlisted in the USAF during the Korean Conflict and spent most of his service career stationed in England. After the war, Tom returned to CT where he simultaneously worked at Armstrong Tire in West Haven, CT., and contracting with his father. He eventually took a position at Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, CT.; first in maintenance, then as facilities manager. It was from here that, after a thirty year stint, he retired in 2000.
Upon retirement Tom and his loving companion, Jennifer Russo, moved to FL.
Here he continued to enjoy the outdoor activities he adored including gardening, golfing, boating, and fishing. He loved working out at the gym, and being part of “The Lucky Club”. He also enjoyed cruises and traveling, especially to Savannah, Disney World and Key West.
Tom is survived by Jennifer Russo, and his children: Tom Battles, Jerry Battles, and Sandy Battles Proch; and six grandchildren; Tommy Battles, Chelsea Battles Barrett, Jerry Battles, Michael Battles, Adam Proch, and Mason Proch. He is also survived by a sister, Patricia Rosacker, and a brother, Jerry Thompson. Tom was preceded in death by his other brother, Porter Thompson.
His viewing will be held at 11 AM on March 5 at Kays, Ponger & Uselton Funeral Home, 1935 S. Tamiami Trl., Venice, FL., with a funeral service at 12 noon. A military burial will immediately follow at Gulf Pines Memorial Park in the Chapel of Peace, 2401 Englewood Rd., Englewood, FL.
