Allene Hill, beloved and devoted wife and mother, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side the evening of Thursday, June 22, 2017, at the age of 95 following a long illness. She was born July 2, 1921, in New Castle, PA.
Allene spent her childhood and early adult years in New Castle before joining other family members in California in the late 1940’s. In the years following she worked as a switchboard operator for the Phone Company, Southern California Edison, Foster Memorial Hospital and Shell Oil, while also caring for her aging father.
In the early 1950’s Allene met her soulmate “Mel”, who was the love of her life. They married in 1955 and had 61 wonderful years together until his passing in March of 2016. Several years after they married they had a daughter, Laurie. At that time Allene stopped working outside the home and became a homemaker which was her passion. She also volunteered her time in community service and was active in the Assistance League and several volunteer programs at Community Memorial Hospital.
Allene had a compassionate and nurturing spirit, always looking to take care of others especially small children. She was a mother and grandmother figure to many and will be dearly missed by those she loved.
Allene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Steve Sweeting; grandsons, Spencer and Shane Sweeting; great grandsons, Dayeton, Landon, and Mason Sweeting. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as her close friends and in-laws, Joanne and Fred Sweeting.
A special thank you to those at the Victoria Care Center and TLC Hospice, who became part of the family and who so lovingly and patiently, helped care for Allene in her final years.
A celebration of Allene’s life will take place Thursday, July 20, 2017, 7:00 P.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura . Graveside services will be held Friday, July 21, 2017, 2:00 P.M. at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
