

Longtime Ventura resident, Bernice Jenkins, 78, died Monday, January 31, 2011 following a sudden illness. Bernice was born December 1, 1932, in Witchita Falls, Texas and had been a resident of Ventura County for 76 years. Bernice was an active member of the First Assembly of God for thirty years. She and her husband Jim owned and operated B and J Drive-In for many years until retirement in 1996. Bernice’s faith in God and her family were most important to her. She had many enjoyable times of travel and camping with her family. She enjoyed collecting and reading cookbooks and will be fondly remembered for her delicious cooking and most recently her cracker chicken.
Bernice is survived by her husband of 60 years Jim Jenkins; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Bill Steeno, sons, Steven Jenkins and Michael Jenkins; grandchildren, Shannon, Kindra, Sundryanna, Kristi and Jerrod; great grandchildren, Dylan, Riley, Brandon, and Madison. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Stevie Jenkins as well as her three sisters and four brothers.
Visitation will take place Sunday, February 6, 2011, Noon until 5:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
Services will be held Monday, February 7th, 10:00 A.M. also at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, with The Reverend Jim Deck of the First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, Ventura.
