Betty Lou Reed

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of former Santa Paula resident Betty L. Reed. With her family by her side, Betty, 78, passed away on January 21, 2011 in Las Vegas, NV, following a brief illness.

Born May 11, 1932 in Colgate, OK, to Bud and Blanche Lyles, she moved to California as a young girl.

Betty married Henry B. Reed on January 9, 1955 in Las Vegas, NV, recently celebrating 56 years of marriage together. They settled in Santa Paula and raised their family there. Betty worked as a waitress at various restaurants in the county before retiring in 1984. Upon retiring, they briefly lived in Oklahoma before moving to Las Vegas in 1986.

Betty enjoyed bowling, embroidery, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Betty was welcomed into heaven by her daughter Jenetta Lamont, who preceded her in death on November 17, 2008. She is survived by husband Henry B. Reed; sons Henry B. Reed Jr., Frank A. Reed Sr. (Joanna); daughter Debra J. Reed, all of Las Vegas, NV; daughter Sandra L. Yanez of Ventura; sister Lola B. Anderson of Ventura; and 12 grandchildren, including Sherry Moore of Shawnee, OK and Paul Burboa of Oklahoma City, OK, whom she raised.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by Solari Hospice Care of Las Vegas, NV.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2011 at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura. Arrangements are under the direction of Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura. Condolences may be left at www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com.
