

Dorothy Wayne Ledger graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles. Her music career as a mezzo soprano spanned over 20 years. She received her vocal training from the late, great Nina Koshetz. Ms. Ledger appeared with the Los Angeles Chamber Symphony, the Harold Byrns Chamber Orchestra and was the first local soprano featured in the Beverly Hills Music Association season. She was a featured soloist with the Roger Wagner Chorale, the Los Angeles Music Festival under the direction of Franz Waxman, sang the role of Jocasta in the West Coast premiere of Stravinsky’s “Oedipus Rex,” and was soloist with the Hollywood String Quartet in the American premiere of Werner Egk’s “La Tentation de Saint Antoine.” She starred in the Hollywood Bowl production of Darius Milhaud’s American premiere of “David,” and the West Coast premiere of Douglas Moore’s “Ballad of Baby Doe.”
She was presented in recital throughout Germany, France and Holland and returned to the United States to perform with Ingolf Dahl for Monday Evening Concerts as the Leo S. Bing Theater, the Claremont Civic Symphony Orchestra and the Carmel Bach Festival. Ms. Ledger’s career documents and recordings are archived at the Huntington Library in San Marino, California.
Ms. Ledger also worked as an executive assistant at Radio Free Europe in Munich, Germany for 12 years.
Always active, Dorothy was involved with the Saint Mary of the Angels Anglican Catholic Church in Los Angeles, a member of The Dominant Club, Republican Women’s Club, UCLA Alumnae Association, Assistance League of Southern California, and Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
Ms. Ledger was an avid watercolorist and participated in many exhibits in the Ventura area. She was a great enthusiast of the game of bridge and held her card buddies very close to her heart!
She is survived by her nephew, Thomas Wayne Rounsavell of Poway, California; niece, Dorothy Rounsavell Allmon of Lake Arrowhead, California; niece Mary Rounsavell O’Conner of Glendale, California; and cousin, Janie Clark Ericsson of Warrington, Virginia.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, December 16th, 1:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
