Dorothy Bernice Ferguson Posey, the first of four children born to Fred Earl and Rachel Manerva (Mayes) Ferguson, was born Dec. 28, 1926 in Ogden, Ark. She passed away June 26, 2012, just 10 days after her beloved husband Herston.
When Dorothy was in the 4th grade, the family moved to southeast Ark where she grew up on a farm near Dumas. At the age of 13, she gave her heart to Jesus and was baptized in water and in the Holy Spirit. After graduating from high school, she married Herston Posey. In 1947 they moved to the Panhandle of Texas taking with them their baby daughter Judy Angelyn. While living in Texas, she and Herston had 2 sons: Gary Esias and Stanley Wayne.
In 1968 they moved to California because Dorothy’s husband was transferred by Phillips Petroleum Co. They made their home in Ventura and immediately started attending First Assembly of God church and continued there for 39 years.
Dorothy taught school at Ventura Christian Junior High School for 12 years and 6 years at St. Bonaventure High School. After retirement, in 1990, she served as church librarian for 11½ years. In 2007, she and Herston chose to worship at South Coast Fellowship and continued until their passings.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Rachel; husband Herston Posey; brother: Harold Ferguson; half-sister: Selma Ferguson Thomas and half-brother: Delma Ferguson. She now lovingly leaves behind her daughter Judy; sons: Gary and Stanley; brother: Glen Ferguson; sister: Jean Ferguson Rorie; 1 grandson, 7 granddaughters and 13 great grandchildren.
