
Elizabeth D. “Betty” McCallum resided in Ventura for 38 years upon retiring from Des Plaines, Ill. She was born in Dover, Ohio on July 8th, 1916 and passed from this life on March 9, 2012 after a very long struggle with physical limitations and later dementia.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Malcolm “Tom” McCallum whom she married in 1939. They started married life owning a green house/nursery in Ohio. Life took them to California briefly in the early 1950’s and then to Illinois for 20 years. Betty was a pioneer in computer key punching for United Airlines for 12 years. They traveled the world and retiring to Ventura in 1974 joined two bowling leagues and she served as secretary for many years. Betty loved camping in their “Dolphin” motor home and spending time with family. She was a loving mother and grandmother.
We wish to thank Treacy Villa in Ventura for their excellent care of our mother. Also hospice provided by Assisted Living gave her peace at the very end. Sherry Miller provided years of home care and was an excellent provider of TLC.
She is survived by two children, daughter and son- in-law, Janet and Elwood Williams of Santa Paula and son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Sandra McCallum of Prescott, AZ.; her pride and joy were her four grandchildren, Scott & wife Tracy Williams of Ventura, Gregg & wife Kathy McCallum of Flagstaff, AZ, Bob & wife Teresa McCallum of Santa Barbara, Ca. and Rebecca & husband John Wallet of Ventura; plus six great grandchildren, Brandon Wallet, Rachel Williams, Shaun Wallet, Travis Wallet, Nathan Williams & Jessica Williams.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 16th, 7:00 P.M. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura with The Reverend Dan Hull officiating.
