Bill was born on May 18, 1937, to Magaret Kellogg Weisshaar, and Frederick William Weisshaar V in San Francisco, CA. He overcame many physical difficulties as a child, and eventually became a member of the United States Marine Corps, serving his Country for six years. Bill met and married the love of his life, Rose Macias. They eloped while she was a senior in high school and were married in Reno, CA. A few months later their vows were renewed in the Old Mission in Ventura.
Bill discharged honorably from the Marine Corps, and became a Firefighter. He was a member of the Ventura County Fire Department, retiring in 1978 as an Engineer. After retirement he started a second career, creating “Bill’s Mobil Lock.” We still laugh that it was spelled “Mobil” without an “E!” Dad worked for many more years, finally retiring for good.
Pop lived life to the fullest. He was very active with his son as a member of the Boy Scouts, even receiving recognition for his dedication to the Scouts. He was also a “Camp Fire Girls” Dad, having been roped into this by his three girls and his wife. Bill was known to be “Santa” throughout the County for children’s events, the Scouts, and Church. He had a beautiful baritone voice, and sang with the Marine Choir while he was enlisted. Two of his favorite hobbies were coin collecting and Lionel Trains. He loved talking to his grandchildren about all his different coins, and the house was never without a trainset chugging along somewhere.
Finally, Mom and Dad would have celebrated their 58th anniversary on January 2, 2017… Their legacy is awesome.
Bill was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle (Sandra) Snyder; and sons in law, Scott Lawry, and Scott Matthews. Pop is survived by his bride of 58 years, Rose Weisshaar; son, Fred Weisshaar VII (Evelyn); daughters, Debra Lawry, and Kathy Weisshaar-Matthews; grandchildren, Jonathan (Ona), Krystina, and Jayson Snyder; Frederick VIII (Erick), Michael, Zachary, and Matthew Weisshaar; Dallas Rose Lawry, and and Kayla Matthews; and his great grandson Liam McPherson.
A Rosary will be held for Bill on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, 6:30 P.M., at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home. With a Funeral Mass following on Thursday, December 29, 2016, 10:00 A.M., at Our Lady Of Assumption Catholic Church.
