

Helen Audrey Garmon, 91 of Santa Paula passed peacefully Wednesday evening, August 26, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Helen was born to Marion E. and Lucille Kingston Mc Keen on August 3, 1924 in Ventura, California. She attended school in Ventura and Saticoy, living on the Avenue and on the Limoneira Ranch while growing up.
Helen graduated from Santa Paula High School in 1942 where she met the love of her life, Bill Garmon. After working during WWII on Port Hueneme Base and for the Boy Scouts of America, she married Bill on May 12, 1945, then settling down to begin her their life together on the family ranch in Wheeler Canyon.
Helen enjoyed crossword puzzles, Scrabble, Jeopardy, cooking, crocheting, and you could often find her with her nose in a book. She also enjoyed traveling with her close friends to places near and far. Helen was a member of YLI and Beta Sigma Phi.
Helen was preceded in death by her loving husband, William A. Garmon, Jr. in 1981 and her brother, Elbert L. Mc Keen in 1966. She is survived by her children, Anita (Gary) Hensley of Ventura, Lorraine Garmon of Santa Paula, Daniel (Irene) Garmon of Ventura, Allen Garmon of Santa Paula and Colleen (Henry) Smith of Santa Paula; grandchildren, Danny and Christopher Garmon of Santa Paula, Monica (Ryan) Kennedy of Ventura, Lisa Garmon of Ventura, and Megan Campbell-Smith of Santa Paula; great-grandchildren, Payton, Brynn, and Kaelynn Kennedy; sister, Marion Weld of Long Beach; numerous nieces, nephews, and countless friends who were her family as well.
Graveside service will be held Monday, August 31, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Santa Paula Cemetery, 380 Cemetery Road, Santa Paula, with The Reverend David L. Mc Keever officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
