Howard was born on February 16, 1941, in Ventura, CA. He attended Ventura High School, was a Letterman in Tennis, and graduated in 1958. Shortly after graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country as an Electronic Specialist on the ground crew for a KC-135 refueling tanker. During this time, Howard was able to see much of the world as he traveled with the crew. He was honorably discharged in 1965.
After the service, Howard began working for Pacific Telephone (Pacific Bell) in Ventura. During this time his son, Brad and daughter, Marla were born and he enjoyed an active role in their clubs and sports activities. He relocated to Fresno, CA and in 1991 retired after 25 years with Pacific Bell. While he enjoyed early retirement, Howard was ready for a new adventure. In 1993, he went to work in the Telecommunications Department at the University of Southern California, where he could keep a close eye on his favorite college football team, the USC Trojans. Howard retired from USC in 2008. Upon his retirement, he began working part time at Vista Valencia Golf Course as a Course Ambassador. It was there he found his true retired lifestyle.
Howard spent much of his life enjoying the outdoors. Special times for him included family fishing trips, backpacking, and hunting with friends. He spent the last years of his life pursuing his favorite pastime, golf, being a devoted son and caretaker to his mom, and enjoying his true joy, his grandchildren. Howard loved to travel regularly to various parts of the country to visit them, enjoying good food, and occasionally sneaking in a round of golf when the opportunity arose.
Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Ola Paul, his brother, Bob, and sister, Patty. He is survived by his children, son and daughter-in-law, Brad and Sylvia Meadows of Fresno, CA; daughter and son-in-law, Marla and Don Krupens of Abington, PA; and his four grandchildren, Audrey and Alexis Meadows and Lauren and Garrett Krupens.
