Husband, father, grandfather and self-made businessman, Leo Schultz passed away Monday, April 4, 2016, at his home in Oxnard, CA, at the age of 85. Leo was born on May 28, 1930 in Hoboken, New Jersey, to Meyer and Pauline Schultz.
When Frank Sinatra sang, “I’ve lived a life that’s full … But more than this, I did it my way,” he echoed Leo’s daily marching song. Leo worked a variety of odd jobs, including milkman and gas station attendant, so he was able support his family until he could establish himself in the insurance business and build his little empire. He briefly left the business to run a fast food franchise, “Sam’s Roast Beef,” then returned to the business he knew and loved most and built it back up, eventually moving the agency from Santa Monica to Ventura County 30 years ago.
Leo was always seeking a new business venture. In addition to continuing to work in the insurance industry, he earned his real estate license at the age of 83, and most recently was in the process of trying to launch a perfume called, “Leona.” He was driven and stubborn to the end, going out on his terms.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Schultz; daughters, Shelly Schultz and Teri Jenkins; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Jeanne Schultz; four grandchildren Justine and Evan Jenkins, Josh and Sierra Schultz; two step-children, Kimberly Destler and Albert Gersh. Leo was preceded in death by his first wife, Madeleine in 2010.
A special heartfelt thanks to caretakers, Hozumi, Jesse and Michele, to Livingston Memorial Hospice, and to Carol, Rebecca and the staff at Northern Health Insurance Services.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday, April 6, 2016, 10 AM, at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura. Internment will immediately follow at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Road, Ventura.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society.
