Lois Coburn was born in Des Moines, Iowa April 6, 1940 to John and Maxine Lunstrum. She had four sisters; Peggy, Betty, Kathy, and Darla, and one brother; John. Beautiful inside and out, Lois was loved for her faithful and compassionate spirit; with a single flash of her brilliant smile Lois could brighten even the darkest of days. Her laughter was infectious and witty remarks were never in short supply. Among her family she is famous for yelping out a “Jiminy Christmas!” or even the occasional “Heaven for Betsy!”
Although she had experience working in vastly different fields ranging from retail to machine shops, Lois enjoyed her position as a Collector with the Ventura Superior Court. She made many lifelong friends and in 2002 Lois retired. Lois could often be found thumbing through the pages of a good crossword puzzle and she also felt an affinity for the ocean. However, Lois’ greatest love was for her family.
Lois was treasured by all that met her and she filled many roles in everyone’s hearts. She was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, great aunt, great grandmother, and a mother-in-law. Lois Coburn entered into eternal rest May 30, 2012 in Ventura, California. While she is preceded in death by her parents John and Maxine Lunstrum as well as her oldest sister Peggy (Dave) Haney, she is survived by sons Jerry Hatfield, Brian Hatfield, Robert (Lupe) Hatfield and her daughters Judy (Don) Atwood and Cynthis Whelan. She had eleven dearly loved grandchildren, Gaby Martinez, Melinda and Chasity Hatfield, Nicole (Ken) Millman, Breanna and Brandon Hatfield, Jessica (Aron) Oppliger, Jacob (Michelle) Olson, Merissa (Abel) Palos, James (Kristen) Hatfield, and Brittany (Justin) Atkins. She also leaves behind her sisters Darla (Bob) Shaw, Kathleen (JD) Roberts, Betty (Gene) McGee, her brother John (Janie) Lunstrum, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and eighteen great-grandchildren.
While we will miss her greatly, we find comfort in knowing that she no longer feels pain. She is in the presence of our Lord and can once again be with her beloved mother and father. We find peace in knowing that we will see her once again and will forever keep the love that we feel alive in our memories of her.
Memorial Services will be held this Sunday June 3, 2012. Viewing available at 12:00pm and services begin at 2:00pm at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd. Ventura, CA 93003.

Hold your head up high
And do not cry
For I am with you
Till the end of time.
Live the rest of your life
With lots of pride
We shall be together again
On the other side.
Hold your head up high
And do not cry
For I am with you
Till the end of time.
I will always love you so
And now it's time to go
Until we meet again
Then we will begin
Our life together,
For always,
and forever.
So till then my love
Hold your head up high
And do not cry
For I am with you
Till the end of time
- A poem by Cynthis Whelan
