

Lupe Garcia Campos age 86 died peacefully on Saturday December 7, 2019 at her home in Oxnard, California. Lupe was born on February 1, 1933 in Richmond, Texas to Mariano and Inez Garcia. She moved to California in 1947 and has been in Ventura County ever since. Lupe was a long time resident of Cabrillo Village, Saticoy, Ventura and Santa Paula and was well known by her community. For the last 45 plus years she lived proudly in sobriety. Lupe had a generous spirit and dedicated years of service as a drug and alcohol counselor at Services United in Santa Paula. There, among other things, she was instrumental in creating a Spanish speaking women’s group. Her mentorship and compassion were instrumental in addressing the needs of the local community. Lupe was also a long time volunteer at the Alano Club of Ventura where she led bingo nights and social events.
Lupe is preceded in death by her parents Mariano and Inez Garcia, her brother Phillip Garcia, and sons Henry and Ernie Campos. Lupe is survived by her two brothers Jessie and Dennis Garcia. Her seven children Lorraine Morales, Anthony (Johnathan) Campos, Angelina Gomez, Helen VanSlyke, Lydia Gajda, Susan Lopez and Yolanda Avalos. As well as 32 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her life of service, Lupe enjoyed dancing, crocheting, doing puzzles and playing dominoes. She had a way of nursing plants back to life and loved birds. Lupe was known by many as a woman of faith who spread her joy and love with everyone she encountered. Her faith was a staple in her home. Visible in the Christian television she watched and the Christian radio station she tuned into. Some of Lupe’s happiest and proudest moments centered around her family. She was the matriarch of the family, her laughter was contagious and her love was unconditional. Lupe’s gentle and quiet demeanor has had a lasting impression on her loved ones. Her spirit will live on for generations to come.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life gathering on December 19, 2019 from 11 am to 2 pm at Ted Mayr Funeral Home located at 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura, CA 93003 (www.TedMayrFuneralHome.com). In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
