Our beloved wife and mother, Lupe (Guadalupe) Vasquez, age 85, died peacefully in the early hours of Good Friday, March 30, 2018, at her home in Ventura. This followed a two and half years of a spirited battle with melanoma cancer. Lupe will be remembered as a kind, caring and generous person who was dedicated to family and friends, who also was an artistic ceramist.
Lupe was born on December 13, 1932, in Fillmore, California, to mother, Maria Flores Villanueva and father, Raphael Villanueva. Lupe attended Fillmore High School, graduating in 1951. She began her career as a Medical Assistant working for Dr. French, a physician in Fillmore. This was the beginning of a 40 year career ending with her retirement in 1992, from the Buenaventura Clinic, in Ventura.
Lupe’s interests in the arts led her to enroll at Ventura College where she developed the love for the art of ceramics. She assembled her own small studio at home where she produced many artistic pieces. Lupe was awarded First Prize two successive years at Ventura County Fair. She was an active member of the Ventura County Potters Guild. She also developed an interest in Family History research and spent many hours at the local Mormon Church’s Family Research Center. Somehow, Lupe was able to find time to become a member of the Community Memorial Hospital Auxiliary with 20 active years of service. She was a world traveler and with her husband Ed, saw many amazing places around the world. Lupe was a collector of art and her travels provided that opportunity. Traveling was also a learning experience and provided her the opportunity to meet and make new friends; she was a “people person”.
Lupe is survived by her husband of 64 years, Edward (Ed) Vasquez; as well as their three children, Denise (Rick) Hillburn, Janice Vasquez, both of Glendale, CA, and Gavin (Shannon) Vasquez, of Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by her brother, Robert (Polly) Villanueva, of Oxnard, CA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raphael and Mary Villanueva and her sister, Irene (Villanueva) Casas.
The family would like to thank Linda, her friend, Home Health Aids, Annie and Toni for their care and love of Lupe. We also would like to thank the Assisted Home Hospice Team; Plumeria, Elvia and Helen for their kindness and professional care of Lupe.
