We, your friends in Sweden, feel great sorrow that we not can meet you again.
We are happy for the time we knew you, a man with much humor and warmth. We were hoping for many more pleasant meetings but so it wasn'nt. 

We miss you!

Lynn was an outstanding man.  This world was a better place with him in it.  His passing is a great loss for everyone who knew him.

It has been said "to live in the hearts and minds of the loved ones, family and friends we leave behind is not to die."

The memory of Lynn will live on forever, in our hearts as he made an ever lasting impression on everyone who knew him.  

John Paul Getty once said, "give me a man with a good taste and common sense, the rest you can buy by the yard."  We all know that Lynn had good taste - he chose Malou.  Everyone knows he had good common sense, he was a Republican.

Socrates said "There is no possession more valuable than a good faithful friend".  That was said many years ago, but it is still true today.  Lynn made friends easily, and kept them all his life. 

Lynn met Steve Downey at USC in 1958; even though they had a difference of opinion in almost all matters regarding politics and current events, they continue to be good friends.  They attended all the USC football games together.  They traveled.  They cruised.  They enjoyed each others company for over 52 years.  

Lynn met George Simmons in his early Banking days (that was when Moby Dick was a Minnow).  One day George called Lynn and said " I have this young kid working for me that would do a good job for you".  Lynn said "send him over".   That kid was Gil Dalmau.  Lynn and Gil became dear friends.  Gil did such an outstanding job he is now a Bank President.  

To mention all of Lynn friends we would be here a long, long time.  

Lynn was a warm and generous man, who had a good sense of humor, and a zest for life.  He retired at age 51 and lived his life to the fullest.  He was well read.  Lynn was one of those rare people who knew so much about so many things.  He remembered everything he ever learned or ever read.   He loved to travel all over the world, and his favorite place was Ireland.  Every year, Lynn traveled with a group of his friends to at least one out of town USC football game.  It was a tradition.  

He had many traditions with his friends and family - from those annual USC away games, to the Fess Parker BBQ each May, to trips to Laughlin, or family gatherings at the holidays.  

Lynn enjoyed his visits to the Rudder Room (the local watering hole in Oxnard, which by the way has a million dollar view overlooking the ocean).   He enjoyed discussing current events, politics, and football with everyone at the bar.  Lynn especially enjoyed talking with Troy the Bartender and George the owner.  Lynn often said that Troy was very entertaining.  When some one would play a rap song on the juke box, Troy would change it to a Willy Nelson song and say "we don't listen to that junk music here."  

Nobody embodies the magic, the charisma, the spirit and excitement of what it means to be a Trojan more than Lynn.  Experiencing all of this with his friends was one of his greatest joys.  It didn't get any better than that for Lynn.  I asked Lynn why he liked USC football so much.  "I love USC football because of the  great players, the Coliseum, the beautiful cheerleaders in cardinal & gold, Traveler, the USC white horse ridden by Tommy Trojan, charging around the field after each USC touch down, and the great USC band playing Fight On!  But the most important thing of all was how they played the game."

Fight on!

We all have our own memories with Lynn, and if I had to sum him up it would be:  USC anything, a good glass of wine or beer, and great conversation.

Lynn had a knack of striking up conversations with our family which were intriguing, funny, and sometimes even heated. I know my wife Carrie will miss all of their heated discussions about politics, which would usually send my Mom and I in the other room. 

Cooper ,our 2 year old Son, I know will always look up to his Farfar (which means Grandfather in Swedish). They had a special relationship and he always told Coop he would be the best linebacker USC had ever seen. But the most important advice he received from his Farfar was of course, always make sure you do your studies.

Most importantly I want to thank you Lynn for how happy you have made my Mom. Your vacations, conversations, and time together were unparalleled.   

On a lighter note: Lynn had his priorities.  Whenever there was an occasion, a wedding, or family event, it was always during a USC Football game.  As much as he loved the occasion at hand, he would search the building for a TV, and when he found that TV in the Bar, well, that wasn't such a bad thing.  So rain/shine/or wedding Lynn would watch that game.  

So Lynn, in honor of you, we made sure to make your celebration of life here, on a Sunday, assuring that it did not disrupt any viewing of the football game for the true USC fan.

Lynn, you will truly be missed, and again, Thank you for everything you did for our Family.

It will come to no surprise to any of you that Lynn was . . . conservative.  

Whatever that meant politically, practically it meant that Lynn did not like change.  He did not like it one bit.  

Whether it was resisting new drapes even though they looked like they had always hung there, or a new computer that did not have his antiquated version of Solitaire, Lynn did not see the value in changing things that, as he saw them, were perfectly fine the way they were.  Lynn even managed to avoid having a cell phone.  That's a special kind of aversion to change. 

During the past few days, some have offered consolation with the notion that Lynn is in a better place.  Nonsense!  Lynn loved being here among his family and friends.  There SIMPLY was no better place.  So there is no need to worry, Lynn.  You are not up there.  You are here in our heads and here in our hearts.  And that will never change.

Dear Lynn,

The first time I met you I was very weary and hesitant.  Who was this man spending so much time with my Mom?

She told me you were the classiest man she had ever known.  And she was so happy.

As I got to know you, I realized you were always so easy to talk to, and I loved coming to spend the night with you guys in Woodland Hills.  We would eat yummy food (either your delicious chicken and rice or something you would grille to perfection) and drink wine (two buck chuck had just made it's debut).  

We got to know each other very well over the years.  And you WERE a very classy man.  And you HAVE made my mother so extremely happy.  You referred to my Mom as "The Lovely Malou" and she always felt that way in your company.  You made her feel like the luckiest woman alive.  And that made me so happy.  My initial hesitation turned to love and respect. 

I have been so thankful that you have been part of our family.  You are just such a wonderful and kind man.  You brought your political opinions, interesting and fun trivia, and wonderful humor to our family and lives.  

You had a great laugh.  

You told a wonderful story.  

I never grew tired of you saying, "Now Tracy, did you know . . . ?"  And what you would share was usually a vague piece of musical, geographic, or culinary trivia.  And I loved it.  

You and Mom have built such a beautiful, loving, comfortable home and life together. 

You have traveled to wonderful places near and far.  You two really lived.  You were always so busy.  The last few years I finally got smart and made sure I got to pen in a few summer weekends with you before you sat down with Steve and George to do the same! 

I love your circle of friends.  Everyone should be so lucky to have such a group of friends.

The only thing I might argue with is the fact that you didn't eat dessert.  I like my sweets.

Thank you for being part of our lives.  For welcoming me into your home, and 4 years ago for welcoming my husband Gene into your life and our family as well.  

We both always felt that visiting you in Oxnard was so relaxing and revitalizing.  We always looked forward to our visits.  

We also look forward to your Thanksgiving oyster dressing each year.  We will make it every year and hope to make it as well as you did.  

I will miss you more than you will know.  I am so sad that Nikolai won't get to know you better, but he will continue to develop that sturdy grip you found so impressive.  We are thankful you two got to meet.  

I will miss your good night nursery rhyme:
"To bed, to bed," said Sleepy Head.
"Tarry a while," said Slow.  
"Put on the pot," said Greedy Gut,
"And we'll eat before we go."  

I love you, Lynn, and I'll miss you so very, very much.

Lynn and Malou were perfect companions and I know it was a blessing to have such a relationship.

Today I want to recognize and honor Lynn for his role in my life.  Remembering Lynn brings to mind words like kindness, wisdom, and most of all, respect.  

KINDNESS - Lynn was a gentleman from days gone by.  You just have to look around the room and see the sadness on people's faces.  Lynn had a heart of gold and his kindness touched the hearts of the people he met.

WISDOM - Lynn was not only smart, he was wise and understood things.  He was someone the family trusted to lead us and help with problems big or small.  The advice he offered was always valued.  I loved to talk politics with him, even though sometimes he seemed to be getting a little moderate on things.  Okay, just kidding about the moderate part.

RESPECT - Knowing Lynn made me a better person.  Because of the man he was, I wanted to earn his respect and be a part of his life. He had the ability to bring out the best in me and the people around him.

I will miss our times together just sitting and talking.  I had the pleasure of having dinner with Lynn and Mom in the week before his passing. The dinner was unplanned but since I was in Los Angeles on business Lynn had suggested that we meet at Duke's on PCH.  I was tired from traveling and business meetings but the opportunity to get together with family always gives me an energy boost.  Usually at Duke's, we would sit in the bar and talk over the noise, but as chance would have it, this time we were seated in the dining room at a quiet ocean front table with the sun setting in the distance.  Lynn looked well and he wore his special smile.  We talked about travel and politics and our recent trip to Pismo Beach for over an hour, it seemed like minutes.  I ask myself if this was all just by chance but I think I know the answer.

Knowing and thinking of Lynn reminds me just how rich a life can be.
I, we all, loved him and will miss him.

I was seven years old when Lynn entered my life. At that time, my mom, Eve, was a single parent raising two small girls (my sister Karen and I) in Monterey Park, CA. When my mom and Lynn married, Lynn and I bonded immediately. He was a valiant man, taking on the job of raising two girls and enduring some of the trials and tribulations that come along with raising children to teens, such as the time my sister Karen backed over the mailbox, completely flattening it as Dad was teaching her to drive, yet just a few short years later he braved the task again with me, which resulted in me running his baby-blue VW bug through the garage door of our house in Thousand Oaks. He was completely engaged when I was a child, rushing me to the hospital during my asthma attacks, tending to softball and soccer injuries, waiting in line at McDonalds for an hour for a very plain, "nothing-on-it" hamburger, and he had great stamina to win the never-ending battle over homework. He raised me through my most formative years, and continued to be a wonderful dad to me as I became an adult. 

All of these events added humor, entertainment, and food for thought to my life, but my life was truly enriched through the people he brought into my life, like my wonderful aunt Valerie and uncle Barry and cousin Spencer, his beloved grandmother, Momee (a.k.a. Stick), and his many life-long friends such as George Hayley, Steve and Leticia, Gilbert, Roger, George, and many others. As an adult I was blessed with more family when Dad met Malou. I've had the privilege to get to know her sons Chip and Morgan, her daughter Tracy, and the rest of the wonderful Gilmore clan that I now also call family. We have enjoyed many celebrations, as well as simple lazy days barbequeing together, as families do. Dad has always been a center point of gatherings and festivities. People just gravitated towards him. He brought people together because of his charisma, his knowledge...you could talk with him about anything, and you could never  stump him on anything. I will miss him dearly, but he will remain in my heart and within the hearts of our family and friends forever.

How does one sum up a life?  How do you hold on to all the precious memories? But most importantly, how do you cope with the loss?  While the Couret family was deep in relatives, they were mostly across the country in Louisiana.  That meant there was Mom, Dad, Lynn, "Momee,"  my father's mother and I.   Small but very close.  Lynn always called me his favorite sister though I am sure at times I was anything but.  He was always my "big" brother and I always wanted to tag along.  He took me camping, he invented games for my best friend and I to play.  I remember racing snails in my grandmother's backyard, and together Lynn and I built a mud hut and enclosure for our pet turtle "Hucklebones" just one of the many animals that we acquired and cared for, it was great growing up in the country, knowing you had a big brother to show you around. In 1956 our Dad got a job in South America, it was difficult for Lynn because he was almost through High School and he wanted to graduate with his friends.  So our parents let him decide if he wanted to stay and finish high school in Simi or go with us to South America. Sadly for me he opted to stay.  When we returned Lynn took me into some of his college classes at USC, I'm sure to try to inspire me.   Lynn got the family tickets to USC/ UCLA game at the Coliseum. I promptly told him USC would win the game and John Kennedy would win the Presidency.  Lynn thought I was right about SC but not Kennedy.   He even took me around to all the local "watering holes" in town, introducing me to fine establishments such as the Mucky Duck and so many others.  He always shared his friends, too.  One of his best friends was practically an adopted brother to me. Good old George Haley who was always looking to stir things up.  I remember Lynn moving away to college and rooming Steve Downey and following them as they progressed from apt to apt, through all the beach towns. Lynn leaving for the Army left a big hole in our family until his return from Germany. When he came home, he took a taxi all the way from LAX to Simi so he could surprise us (he was wildly successful in this).  I remember his marriage to Eve, with her two wonderful young daughters Cheryl and Karen.  He even tolerated my crazy boyfriend Barry and my hippy dippy ways.  Lynn and Eve honored us by being best man and matron of honor at our wedding. He was responsible for my one and only skiing trip to Lake Tahoe where my husband, Barry and I shared a cabin with Lynn, Eve, Cheryl and Karen.  We always had fun.  No matter what happened, we stayed close and he was always my "go to" big brother.  Time goes by and life changes, Gloria, my mother, passed away, Barry and I had our son, Spencer and we moved to Columbus, Ohio.  Lynn would come back to spend  the Holidays with us, go sledding with Barry and Spencer,  investigate Columbus, German Village,  the Ohio State campus and of course, the local pubs.  Lynn always tried to stir things up with the locals at the Buckeye Hall of Fame restaurant.  "What is a Buckeye anyway?" He took charge when Dad passed away, taking care of all the details and comforting me.  He was more than overdue for his own piece of happiness when Malou came into his life.  Once again I gained wonderful additions to my family; Lynn could always pick the good ones!  I will always think how lucky I was to have my big brother, and my new and old families along with all the friends that he brought into my life.  I will greatly miss "my favorite brother" he was the best.

My dearest, dearest  Lynn,

My heart broke with yours.

I miss you with every fiber in my body.

I miss your smiling eyes, your warm hugs, and your happy "Hello Malou,"  when I come home.

I miss the way you looked at me, how you always said "you're the best!"

I miss your encouragements, how you lifted me up when I was down.

I miss your kindness, your humor, your calm, your honesty and your decency.

I miss you answering all my questions, how easily you solved my problems, your vast, vast knowledge.

And how I miss telling you every little thing that happened or is on my mind - I really, really need you right now.  You listened to me, you never told me what to do, you never judged me, you just listened.

I will miss our fun times with friends and family - our fantastic trips - USC football talk.  

I will miss our wine tasting tours - our little road trips - how much fun we had when we took the drive up the 395 - everything was perfect.  The beautiful scenery - you couldn't get enough - the hotels, the food, the interesting people we met, the stories we heard - and that evening with the guitar player doing Robert Johnson, we stayed up way past our bedtime!  I am so grateful that we were able to make this trip that we had talked about for so long.  


I miss our morning coffee, discussing the news, doing crossword puzzles, watching our little hummingbird feeding on all the flowers.  You always named our little hummingbirds.  This year is Hermine, last year was Henrietta, and the year before that we had Howard.  

How you loved the flowers.  The lime bush started blooming last Tuesday.  I can hear you calling to me "Malou, come and look at this!"  You would be so excited.  

And I saw Hermine the hummingbird feeding on the flowers of the hanging plant that you saved when I wanted to throw it out last winter.  You brought it back to life, and now it is so lush and so full and so beautiful.  You were so proud of it, and I am so proud of you.  

I miss our 6 o'clock dates in the wing chairs, listening to music, having a glass of wine and talking, talking, talking.  Oh how we looked forward to that time everyday.  

I miss your love, your big and oh so soft heart.  You loved me just as I am, and you always put up with me.  I used to ask you how, and you just smiled and said "because you're the best." 

Lynn - I never imagined that love could be so exhilarating, so comfortable, so easy and trusting, so completely right, so respectful, pure and simple.  

You gave me the most precious gift I ever received - your undying love for 14 years.  

And now I wonder - how do I go on - without the best friend I ever had - my soul mate, my hero, my rock, the love of my life.  

I will miss you every second of every day - you will always, always be in my heart.  

Thank you Lynn, for the most wonderful years of my life.  

I'll take you with me everywhere I go - I'll put you in my pocket who will know - right next to my heart - I'll take you with me everywhere I go.

Malou

Lynn was a real close friend and I was sad to hear about his passing.  Lynn and I went on two different leaves together during our time in the Army - we went to Spain, Switzerland and France together for two weeks.  Another time we went to England together.  My sympathies to his family left behind.

I send my regrets to the family of a wonderful man and classmate. All too many of us are suffering a great loss having to say goodbye to Lynn. I wish I could be there today to say goodbye along with all of you but I am there if not in body in thoughts and had the distinct pleasure of spending time with both Lynn and Malou on August 14th which I am so grateful for.

Memories of Mr. C (as I would call him),
What can you say when you lose a boss, mentor, and more importantly a friend. I worked for Lynn for over 6 years and he has been my friend for over 25 years. He took me under his wing, mentored me thru the good times and bad times in the banking industry. We went on several trips to Cabo San Lucas with his father and my father as well as many other friends that adore him. We went to many SC football games and I would root for the other team just to irritate him. After a few beers it would get ugly and the friendly arguments would start. 
After his retirement my wife and I continued our friendship with Lynn and his lovely Malou (as he would say) having dinners  together during the year as well as the annual Christmas Party each year that they hosted with all their friends, as well as guys we worked with in the past.  
My wife would cut Lynn’s hair while he was my boss and many years later he would joke and say I used to come to your house get a haircut and have steak and wine and as the years went on that stopped and he was lucky to be offered a glass of water! Another time my wife was giving Lynn a hair cut outside and the weather was cold and he said, “It’s so cold I can see your breath in the air! She said to him,” you can see my breasts?! Lynn said,” no I didn’t say that, I said I can see your breath in the air!” To this day we all laugh about this and Kris has never let him live that down! 
I spoke to Lynn Monday about an hour before his passing. He invited me to the game on Saturday, unknowingly; it would be the last time that I would speak to him. We spoke and laughed about many things. 
He would always tell me when things go bad, “YOU’RE NOT GOING TO DIE!” which I will always remember and recite that same quote to my staff whenever things get rough. He was right, my memories of Mr. C will never die.  Lynn will always be a best friend to me and my wife, and he will be greatly missed! Malou will always be our friend and we are here for her always! 
May Lynn rest in peace forever! 

Roger & Kris Sands and Family

My condolences to Lynn's family on his passing. I am very saddened to hear this as all of his former Army comrades are. We served together in Germany and met again years later at our reunions. He was a fine man and soldier. We will all miss him greatly. May God Bless .....          George Baizel (Glendale, AZ)

I spent the entire tour in Germany with Lynn and have many fond memories of our excursions. I have several photos of Lynn that I would be glad to share with family and friends. Through out grammer school and high school Lynn was a great friend and remain a friend in our adult life.  I am deeply sadden by his passing. My condolences to Maylou and his extended family.

Lynn was a special person and true gentleman, my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours. I'll miss him and it was an honor to know him.
