

Former Ventura resident, Margaret “Peggy” B. Taylor, 93, of Santa Barbara, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 16, 2014. Peggy was born April 5, 1921, in Detroit, Michigan, to Chauncey and Edith Burnett.
Peggy attended school on Grosse Ile, Michigan. She graduated from High School in 1938 and continued her education at Denison University in Granville, Ohio and went on to graduate in 1943 from Michigan State University. She completed one year of graduate work at Kansas State University.
Peggy taught kindergarten at Wilson Elementary School in Santa Barbara for five years and first grade at E.P. Foster School in Ventura for 25 years.
Peggy and Joseph F. Taylor were married on March 14, 1954, at the First United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara and moved to Ventura where Joe had a long and successful career in optometry. Following Joe’s retirement they moved to Santa Barbara. Joe passed away in July of 2006.
Both Peggy and Joe were long time members of First United Methodist Church in Ventura and in recent years she was a member at First United Methodist Church in Santa Barbara. Peggy was a member of the Assistance League of Ventura County, Rotary Anns, the California Retired Teachers Association, Chi Omega Sorority and Delta Kappa Gamma Educational Sorority. She had many varied interests including music, reading, collecting books and paperweights.
Peggy had a keen interest in aviation not only because of Joe’s career as a fighter pilot in World War II, but she was very proud of the fact that she had personally known Amelia Earhart.
Peggy is survived by her brother, James L. Burnett of New Jersey; and nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, May 29, 2014, 4:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road. Peggy will be laid to rest next to her dear husband Joe, in Pembroke, Kentucky.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
