Marilyn was born in Thousand Oaks to Louise Coleman Biddle and Francis Biddle. Marilyn spent her early years attending E.P. Foster, Cabrillo Junior High, Ventura High School, and Ventura College. While attending Ventura High, she was a member of the pep squad.
In 1954, Marilyn married Harold McFadden and they continued to live in Ventura. She worked on the base at Port Hueneme while Harold was stationed in Korea serving in the United States Army. In 1956 they were blessed with a son, Bruce, followed by Steve in 1958. While her children were growing up, Marilyn was the devoted mom and sports fan, never missing a sporting event, whether it was football, basketball, or track and field.
After the birth of her children, Marilyn went back to Ventura College and earned a degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught at Community Presbyterian Preschool for 30 years. She was a loving and gifted preschool teacher who touched the lives of many children, including her own four grandchildren who were blessed to have her as their teacher.
Marilyn’s first love and greatest joy was her family. She was an adoring mother and devoted grandma to her three grandsons and one granddaughter, attending all of their sporting events and school activities from elementary school through college. Marilyn was an expert shopper and loved to take her grandchildren shopping. They looked forward to their frequent trips to Macy’s and the bottomless shopping bag!
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Louise and Fran Biddle, her stepmother Alice, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold McFadden, Sr. and Winifred McFadden, and her loving husband Harold McFadden.
She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Celeste McFadden and Steve and Tonya McFadden, all of Ventura; grandchildren Michael, Ryan, Matthew, and Shannon McFadden. Marilyn is also survived by her special friend, Robert Viles.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Padour and the Livingston Memorial Hospice nurses for their kindness, compassion, and loving care. The family would also like to express their appreciation to longtime family friends Lane Jackson and Lois Moynihan.
A celebration of Marilyn’s life will be held on Saturday, October 27, 1:00 P.M., at the Ventura Missionary Church, 500 High Point Drive in Ventura, with The Reverend Leonard DeWitt officiating.
Private burial will take place at Bardsdale Cemetery, Fillmore, where she will be buried next to her husband Harold.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Project Understanding.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
