Myrna Weed Brown departed peacefully, August 9, 2015, she was 86. She passed at home, surrounded by her loving family and many friends close by. Myrna was born in Oxnard at the Lying Inn Hospital on March 21, 1929 to Dr. Nelson Dexter Weed and Hazel Bragg Weed. Her parents were the founders of the Weed Maternity Home on Main Street, Ventura, where they delivered over 3000 babies.
Myrna’s family home was on Hyland, overlooking our idyllic town. She attended Ventura Public and Private schools and graduated from Ventura High School in 1947. Thereafter she graduated in 1951 from Whittier College with a B.S. in psychology and a teaching credential in early childhood education. She married Cullins William Brown, her Kindergarten classmate, also a lifelong Ventura resident. Myrna and Cullins celebrated their marriage on Myrna’s parent’s 25th wedding anniversary, December 19, 1950.
Cullins and Myrna stayed in Ventura where she taught Kindergarten at E.P. Foster for three years, and he was a partner of Beck-Brown-Dwyer Insurance. After her first child was born she enjoyed being a stay at home mother, leading Camp Fire Girls and 4-H Club. She was a wonderful Mother, creating childhood memories for her own 3 children, niece, neighborhood children and many friends.
Myrna and Cullins enjoyed both world travels and RV Camping. They particularly loved Virginia Stream, Buckeye, and Walker River in the Eastern High Sierras. More memories were created around trout fishing, campfire stories and family times together. Myrna continued to travel after Cullins passed in 2000, including a special riverboat trip to France with her granddaughter Scarlett in 2001.
She cherished her P.E.O. Chapter FZ sisters. They were like family. Myrna also belonged to the Palmer Society and Delta Phi Upsilon in Whittier and in Ventura was active in Ida-Ka Club (wives of the Downtown Lions Club), VMC Waylighters travel group.
