Sheryl Mildred Haystead, our beloved wife, mother and friend, passed away peacefully on the night of January 6, 2012. Sheryl was born in Oakland, CA on January 14, 1951, and has lived in Ventura since 1980. Sheryl graduated from the University of California in 1972. Sheryl is survived by her husband of 35 years, Wes, her sons Andrew and Jonathan, her step-daughter, Karen Duzy, son-in-law, Dave Duzy, daughter-in-law, Becky, plus five grandchildren: Samantha, Abigail, Jayce, Penelope, and Anya, each of whom she cherished. Also, her brother, Marvin Hamstad and sister, Arlene Bishop, join in mourning her loss. She attended Eastminster Presbyterian Church for over 30 years, and greatly enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching soccer, following Cal athletics, and playing with her grandchildren. Sheryl always loved children: her own, her grandchildren, and those she taught in Sunday School every week at her church. For over 35 years she served children’s ministries around the world by writing, editing and creating Sunday School curriculum for Gospel Light Publications. She has trained teachers across this country and abroad; she dedicated her life to drawing children to Jesus. She was a quiet hero of the faith. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 11 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista in Ventura. Graveside services for the family will be held at Ivy Lawn in Ventura. A memorial service to celebrate her life is scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2012, 3pm, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. Instead of flowers, we ask for donations to the Children's Ministries of her church, made out to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 8180 Telephone Road, Ventura, CA, 93004, with Haystead Memorial in the memo line.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
