

Mr. Barragan was born March 7, 1917, in Steeple Rock, New Mexico. He moved to California with his family and grew up in the San Fernando Valley area. He and his wife lived in Santa Barbara for a number of years before moving to Ventura where he has been a resident of for the past 37 years.
Tom served in the United States Army during World War II at Normandy, Southern France, Central Europe, Rhineland and had received several decorations and citations including the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and a Purple Heart.
Tom had been a longshoreman with Pacific Maritime Association retiring in 1982. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His hobbies included fishing, woodworking and golfing; he was a member of the Saticoy Senior Men’s Golf Club. He will be remembered for his love of music, playing his guitar and always whistling a tune.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth Barragan of Ventura; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Larry Schuler of Santa Ynez; Laura and Paul Vasquez of Las Vegas; Corinne and Mark Jasso of Lompoc, Pauline and Ralph Vasquez of Ventura and Lydia and Ruben Rodriguez of Las Cruces, New Mexico; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; sisters, Connie Brown, Josie Gonzales, Vera Lopez, Esther Brown, Lucille Miller and his brother Rudy Lopez. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Petra Lopez, sisters Waldina Fish and Lucy Mendoza and brother John Barragan.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Livingston Memorial Hospice; to Dr. King and Dr. Emery for the kind and loving care given their husband and father.
Visitation will take place Thursday, January 3, 2013, 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
Rosary and Funeral Mass will take place Friday, January 4, 2013, 10:00 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 10800 Henderson Road, Ventura. Burial with military honors will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery, Mission Hills, CA.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home, Ventura.
