Our spirited mother Virginia Claire Williams passed away with family by her side in Glendale, CA, on July 1, 2013. Known to her friends as Ginny, she was born Sept. 4, 1928, in Le Mars, Iowa, to Ren Vander Sluis and Robert Hyink. The family pulled up stakes in 1933, and with the flip of a coin, landed in Los Angeles. While attending the University of Southern California, she married Dr. John P. Burnham, the father of her children Linda Burnham (the late Robert Overby), John Burnham (Robin Thompson), Sharon Burnham (Joe Mott), and Scott Burnham (Suzie).
She married her beloved Gordon C. Williams in 1977, sharing a passion for collecting stamps and gardening until his death in 2012. Ginny especially excelled in growing cymbidium orchids. She also was an avid reader, a violin player, a creative sewer and crafter in her younger years, and a sharp poker player in her later years. In addition to her children, Ginny is survived by her step-children Sally Walby (Larry) and Chuck Williams (Ruth-Ann), four grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two step great-grandchildren.
Ginny will be missed by all who knew her for her friendly manner, spunk, and love of life. In keeping with the wishes of our mother Virginia Williams, there will be no services. Friends are welcome to contact the family by calling 805-642-2521, which will be forwarded to her daughter Sharon Burnham.
