On June 13, 2025, Adrienne Marcelle Therese Weiten (nee Van Humbeck) passed away peacefully in Vernon, BC, at the age of 96. Adrienne was born on November 14, 1928, in Laurier, MB, to Elise and Frederick Van Humbeck. She grew up on the family farm surrounded by warm and loving parents and nine siblings. She left home and worked in Winnipeg, before marrying Martin Weiten on May 19,1951. Adrienne was an “Air Force Wife.” She embraced life on many bases, cities and towns across Canada over her 65-year marriage. Adrienne often worked outside the home, as well as providing a warm and stable home life for Marty and their six children. During all these complicated moves, Adrienne was always a calm and cheerful presence for her family. Adrienne maintained a strong connection to her roots: keeping the tradition of Rèveillon de Noel, speaking French at every opportunity, baking, gardening, pickling, canning, sewing and knitting, doing needlepoint, reading, playing bridge and cribbage. Her children and grandchildren happily received the many products of her labours of love!
For 70 years, Adrienne was a dedicated member of the Catholic Women’s League (CWL). She often served on Executive Councils and loved the companionship and service opportunities the CWL provided. Adrienne was a true friend, a loving spouse, a caring, kind and supportive sister, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and aunt. She was interested in the world and had a talent for enjoying life and making the most of the circumstances in which she found herself. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Louise Maurakis, Ron (Donna Lawrence), Val (Benoit Lepine), Janet (Howard Mitchell), Jim (Melodie) and Rob (Joan); her grandchildren: David (Kristina), Adrienne (Pip), Natalie (Jeff), Zachary (Kayla), Brie, Donovan (Nikkoal), Kate (Jesse), Sophie (Dylan), Dexter and Justin; her great-grandchildren: Elise, Harley, Nixon, Bennett, Jayda, Blake, Autumn, Ella, and Ben. She will be dearly missed by her brother Ed (Terry), sisters-in-law Sue, Lucille and Ann, her nieces and nephews, Andy Maurakis (Linda) and many friends across Canada with whom she faithfully kept in touch over the years.
Adrienne was predeceased by Martin, her husband, in 2016, siblings and in-laws: Frank, Aime (Doreen), Raymond, Sally (Pat), Elaine (Art), Marie (Lionel), Isabel and Gilbert.
Over Adrienne’s long life, her Catholic faith nourished and inspired her and fuelled her optimism and hope. A service will be held in Victoria, BC at a later date.
Thank you to the staff at the Hamlets in Vernon, which was Adrienne’s home this past year. She was treated with dignity and kindness by everyone she met. Mom, we love you and will miss you always.
Memories of Adrienne can be shared online at the Pleasant Valley Funeral Home Vernon BC.
