It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Cary Benson, aged 52, of Enderby, B.C.. He passed on August 1, 2024, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Rutland, BC and graduating from Mount Boucherie, West Kelowna, Cary went on after graduation to the Nelson School of Music, studying music engineering. This was the beginning of a lifelong love for everything blues, bass, and lyrics.
After graduation, he proceeded to be a reservist (and later full time officer) of the Canadian Armed Forces and had extensive work experience in telecommunications, which took him around the world, including Brazil, Guatemala, and Haiti. In addition, he graduated from Okanagan College with a Diploma in Electronic Engineering and a Diploma in I.T. from S.A.I.T. His professional journey was a testament to his dedication and expertise.
Anyone who knew Cary will remember his witty humour. His jovial nature was always a source of light and laughter. Passionate and protective of his family and animals, Cary was a true guardian of those he loved.
With a passion for the outdoors, he loved to go camping in his Jeep with his friends and family. He was actively involved with the North Okanagan Radio Amateur Club (NORAC), where he enjoyed many new friendships and memories, including volunteering for local events such as the Vernon Winter Carnival and the Falkland Stampede.
One of Cary's favorite sayings, delivered with an affectionate Quebecois accent, was, "Ahh...tabernac," a phrase that will bring a smile to the faces of those who knew him.
Cary is survived by his loving wife Maggie and their son Aiden; parents Wayne and Pamela; brother Gary (Ryan); nephews Waylan, Connor, and Zac, as well as many aunts, uncles, and cousins and cherished friends.
He will be greatly missed but never forgotten. Thank you for being everyone's cheerleader, Cary. We love you.
